Our Client in the Bedminster Area is looking to recruit an Inventory Controller on a full time permanent basis.

The Inventory Controller will form an integral part of the Purchasing function in the achievement of Operational objectives.  With a strong, solid background in purchasing and supply chain management, the candidate will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations and implementing changes.  The role is key to leading the Company forward in securing quality suppliers and materials and components covering price delivery and quality targets.

The Inventory Controller will initially report into the Operations Director and will support the purchasing and logistics team to achieve targets set.  Ensuring training and development of the team is kept at the forefront of daily activities.

The role will have a clear project focus and Kaizan will be used to achieve their objectives.

Main responsibilities:

  • Managing and controlling all the company’s external suppliers with particular emphasis on the purchase of materials and finished parts for production
  • Ensure parts and materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production
  • Establish strategic relationships with key suppliers who are aligned to the company’s needs
  • Identify new suppliers, agree terms and negotiate supply agreements where appropriate, including discount structures and volume rebates
  • Foster close working relationships with associated departments e.g. Sales, Quality, Production, Finance
  • Continually improve purchasing methods and drive down external spend
  • Supplier visits both in the UK and abroad
  • To carry out a comprehensive review of the Purchasing function and its methodology and identify and implement improvement
  • Liaise buyers throughout the group, develop relationships

Other Duties

  • Any reasonable task requested by the Company
  • High competency level in use of Microsoft Office ( Excel, PowerPoint, Word as a minimum)
  • Proven track record of controlling and reducing external spend whilst developing a robust supplier base
  • Able to bring a new dimension to procurement activities
  • Fully conversant with modern procurement and purchasing techniques
  • Experience of outstanding to low cost countries would be an advantage
  • Experience of Purchasing bespoke, manufacturing parts including scheduled deliveries
  • Representing the section at internal meetings and presenting Purchasing performance achievements
  • Management and coordination of Purchasing activities with relation to Cost, Delivery and Quality Performance
  • Coordination and managing with Quality personnel, resolutions to Supplier Quality concerns, ensuring timely and effective containment and long term resolution of each concern
  • Mentoring new starters. providing “on the job” training to existing team members and ensuring that the team are satisfactorily supported in their day to work activities
  • Continuous development of self and individual team members
